We have an exciting career opportunity for a Sustainable Solutions Sr. Strategic Marketing Manager to join the Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) business team in Des Plaines, IL during this exciting time of expansion for our business. 

The Strategic Marketing Manager (SMM) is responsible for leading value chain expansion and new market growth vector initiatives, including market & competitive research, leading Z21 (New product introduction process) exploratory workshops for potential new growth vectors, building robust business cases and leading initial customer/value chain outreach. In addition, this individual will lead STS Futures (Strategic long term plan), and help drive marketing excellence for STS.

You will research new segments along the various value chains STS is targeting for growth, engage key market stakeholders including industry organization/association staff and decision-makers, and industry specific consultants and SMEs as required to successfully identify new growth vectors and develop robust business cases for expansion. You will expand STS knowledge of value chains, demographics, as well as target companies for inorganic investment/acquisition, and potential first customers.  You will work closely with R&D, UOP Strategic Marketing, Corp M&A and STS Business teams, as well as the UOP Growth Vector Steering Team. The Role:

Lead New Growth Vectors/Value Chain Expansion

You will be successful by:

  • Continually engaging with the market to prove/disprove key assumptions that advance your proposed business model toward first revenue
  •  Identifying critical barriers to successful business advancement and working to overcome them
  •  Thinking even bigger … and making it happen, Being courageous, and Acting with urgency
  •  Build a new minimum viable business for UOP (considering both organic and inorganic options)

o    Follow Z21 approach to rapid innovation and market testing

o    Partner with R&D and Corp M&A to define offering and business model

o    Lead continuous market research and prospect/customer engagement

o    Identify most critical assumptions for success and value - take rapid validation actions

o    Establish Robust Business case and quarterly milestones

Drive Marketing Excellence

  • Lead the development of the 3-year Futures for STS working with business and functional leadership, and ensure alignment and execution
  •  Identify new vertical consultants and external resources in partnership with Procurement, scope and manage new subscriptions and custom consulting work for market research and analysis for new verticals
  •  Champion Marketing Excellence including; applying best practices in effective market definition and demographics, and customer segmentation and value propositions. Support identification of target customers
  •  Develop and maintain business / market intelligence, syndicated data, sales analysis and corresponding presentations to identify and capitalize on the most advantageous business trends, and align the business to dynamic end market conditions

We’re looking for

The successful candidate must have proven success driving business growth and or expansion, developing new strategic relationships/partnerships, and/or proven success leading inorganic/M&A portfolio development and execution. The candidate preferably has experience related to the plastics, renewable fuels, renewable chemicals and/or bioplastics industries. She/he must possess proven strategic, analytical and implementation skills and possess a well-developed strategic toolkit [e.g., market definition and sizing, segmentation, value management, VOC, finance/accounting, microeconomics, go-to-market skills]. Implementation experience is particularly important.  She/he is an excellent broad-based business thinker who can collaborate effectively with peers as well as executive, functional and senior business line leaders.

YOU MUST HAVE

  •  Bachelor's degree in Business or Technical field
  •  Minimum of 5 years of experience in plastics, renewable fuels, renewable chemicals, bioplastics, or related sustainable technology or industrial process / technology
  •  3 years of increasingly responsible commercial experience (offering development/management, M&A, sales, business development, marketing, or commercial excellence)
  •  1+ years of experience with the implementation of new business development and marketing initiatives that lead to profitable growth (Financial acumen and business case analysis/justification development)

WE VALUE

  •  Master of Business Administration degree is preferred
  •  Strong business aptitude and interest; understanding and application of basic marketing frameworks
  •  M&A, venture capital, or prior strategic alliance development experience preferred
  •  Proven track record of successful implementation (on time and on budget) of technology or marketing programs preferred
  •  Ability to influence multifunctional teams without a direct reporting relationship
  •  A Highly-motivated self-starter
  •  Honed customer interface skills
  •  Very strong written and oral skills, including proficient use of Microsoft Office
  •  It is expected that the candidate in this position may travel globally up to 20% of the time
